Did you know February 20th is National Love Your Pet Day? Of course, our little cuddly friends or gentle giants probably already get a bit of spoiling, but today we can give them a little something extra for the love, companionship, comfort and protection they give us. Whether your pet is furry, feathery or scaly, there are always ways to show appreciation to our pets. Make it a family activity!
One way to love your pet today is to take inventory of their health. Take a few minutes to think about your animal's overall physical condition. Are their vaccinations and flea treatments up to date? When was their last check up? Do a quick scan of their body and teeth to see if anything is concerning. Perhaps they need an appointment before their regular checkup. Read here for how to do a proper home health check on a dog, and here for a cat. (Home checks are not a replacement for vet checks, and should be done by adults.) Hopefully, everything is looking great!
Is your dog getting enough exercise? Weather permitting, today might be an opportune time for the whole family to take your pet on an extra long walk, or take them somewhere where everyone can run. If you don't have as much time to exercise with your dog as you would like, check out this ball launcher.
Does your cat get outside much? If you are looking for a safe outdoor place for cats then this may be for you. My sister has one for her feline friend. He can soak up sun while remaining safe from predators.
Next, take a closer look at all of your pet's possessions. Check and make sure everything is in working order and healthy for your pet. Do their food and water bowls need to be cleaned? Is their bedding still in good condition or does it need to be replaced? Are their blankets warm enough for the weather? Have any of their toys been mangled to the point that they are now a choking hazard? Check out these products if you find they need some supplies.
If all the essentials are taken care of, its time for pampering. Give your pet a nice rub down, and/or a nice bath. Below is a new grooming mitt I am getting for my dog. A grooming mitt allows for her to get a nice massage, and she gets some much needed deshedding done. Much better in the mitt than stuck in the carpet. I also added a link to Burt's Bees Shampoo for dogs too!
Finally, just like humans, pets love a tasty treat on their special day. You may have heard Rachael Ray's Nutrish line of food is quality flavorful meat for your dog companion. But did you know she makes cat treats too?
If you would prefer to make your own treats for your dog, take a look at these homemade recipes from Cesar Millan . If you need some cute supplies for your treats, check this out below.
I hope all our little animal friends have a happy day and we can bring them just a little of the joy they bring us!
